Two-factor authentication

To enable two-factor authentication for a Metaname account:

1. Go to account settings, then click "Enable" next to TOTP

2. Get a prover

   Please see the TOTP help page for a suggested prover

3. Add a new account to the prover

   This step is different for every prover

   The TOTP setup page presents a QR code though the secret is also provided verbatim for manual configuration and/or backup

4. Check that it's working

   The TOTP setup page includes an interactive process to confirm that TOTP is correctly configured before it is required to sign in

5. Enable TOTP

   After this step, a correctly configured prover is required at sign in

6. Back up the secret

   If the prover is lost then it will not be possible to sign in.  Please set up multiple provers and/or take a backup of the secret

7. Sign out

At next sign in, there will be an extra box for the OTP.  Use the prover and input the current OTP from the prover.  Then press the "Sign in" button.

If you have any difficulty signing in to an account that has been protected with two-factor authentication then please contact support.  Be prepared to prove that you are the owner of the account.
